Sunday Worship

Sunday worship is held at 9:30 am and lasts for approximately one hour. The service is relatively traditional. Our worship is enhanced by a wide variety of special music, including adult and childrens choirs, bell choirs, a brass ensemble and our contemporary musical group, the Joy Messengers. Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month, and all are welcome.

Sunday School

Sunday School is held concurrently with the worship service during the school year. Children take part in worship for approximately the first 20 minutes, including a Children’s Sermonette on most Sundays, and then dismiss to Sunday School. During the summer there is no Sunday School, but children from Pre-K through Grade 5 can participate in a story hour. Child care for young children is always available in our nursery and classrooms below the sanctuary.

Nursery Care

Nursery care is provided during Sunday morning worship for children up to four years old. Children may be dropped off beginning at 9:15 am and picked up after worship, as late as 10:45 am. This is more than just “babysitting.” We have worked hard to provide a fun, safe environment where our children can be nurtured in faith and fellowship. A nursery worker is present every Sunday morning, providing a structured, consistent presence for the kids. The nursery is located on the lower level, just off the Fellowship Hall. For the safety of your children, we ask that each child be signed in and out by the same parent. Nursery workers will change diapers and escort potty-trained children to the restroom. We want you to be able to focus on worship without being worried about your child!

Dress

Dress at Sunday worship is very diverse, and there is no “dress code”. While dresses, suits, and ties can be found, the majority of the congregation dresses more informally.

What We Love About St. John’s

I started coming to St John’s because I was looking for something. Something bigger than me. I have sometimes been conflicted about organized religion but needed help to teach my son that giving to others and thinking beyond yourself is the greatest blessing. That was 12 years ago. What I found and why we have stayed at St John’s is because we found a true community with many different sizes, textures and flavors but one built on love for each other and a real passion to find ways to serve others in need.

Being a member of St. John’s is truly a gift to ourselves. It is like finding a home, and feeling welcomed and nourished every week. Ever since my husband and I came through St. John’s doors seven years ago, we have felt part of a very giving community. Renewing old friendships and meeting new people while participating in worthwhile endeavors is all part of the St. John’s experience.

We have been thinking about comments made by our friends and fellow worshippers at St. John’s and there seems to be a theme… we are a Church family and we support each other in good times and bad. We agree. Ours is a Christ-centered Church where we take seriously the Lord’s words “Go into all the world and preach the gospel.” Doing that, by words and deeds, takes us down many avenues, exemplified by the numerous outreach programs St. John’s is involved in throughout our community, nation and worldwide.

What should I wear?

Some people wear dresses and skirts, suits, ties, and shirts, while others wear jeans or shorts. What truly matters is how we clothe our hearts, so come as you are. Whatever you wear, you will be welcomed here!

Is there handicapped accessibility?

There are two handicapped parking spaces in the circular drive in front of the building. On the left-hand side of the building is a ramp that provides wheelchair accessibility to the sanctuary. In the rear of the building, you will find a ramp that provides access to the Fellowship Hall with an elevator up to the Sanctuary.

Is there nursery care?

Nursery care is provided during worship, from 9:15 to 10:45 for children up to four years old. The nursery is located on the lower level of the building, just off the Fellowship Hall. We have a nursery supervisor on staff who is there every Sunday, providing a fun, safe, and consistent presence for the kids.

Am I allowed to take communion?

Yes! We invite anyone who places their faith in Jesus Christ and seeks his strength to share in communion with us. You don’t have to be a member of St. John’s or even a Presbyterian. Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month, although the way in which we serve it varies. Sometimes we pass trays of bread and grape juice around the sanctuary, while other times we invite you to come forward, take a piece of bread, and dip it in the cup. If you are physically unable to come forward, we will bring communion to you.

Do I have to give an offering?

No. The offering provides a way for our members to support the life and ministry of the church. If you feel led to contribute, you certainly may, but please don’t feel like you have to. You are our guest. Allow us to bless you.

How do I become a member?

Just talk to one of our pastors. Joining the church is a simple process, because we want you to be a part of this community! Inquirer’s classes are held occasionally throughout the year.
